Back Road Tours

Take an easy, leisurely ride with enjoyable discoveries along the way.
Travel along scenic country roads off the beaten path and enjoy the heart of Vermont.  See picturesque farms, spectacular views and special stops along the way.
Visit the Bragg Maple Farm, Grand View Winery and Cabot Creamery, all within close proximity to each other.

Bragg Maple Farm on Route 14 north in East Montpelier is a maple sugarhouse using traditional wood fired sugaring equipment.  Take a tour of the sugarhouse, view an educational maple video, and look for special Vermont products and gifts.  Be sure to also try Bragg's maple creamies - a delectable soft ice cream produced onsite.  Open 8:30 am to 6:00 pm daily.  Telephone 802-223-5757

Grand View Winery on Max Gray Road, just off of Route 14  north, in East Calais produces red and white grape wines and wines made from fruits that grow easily in Vermont, including pear, cherry, raspberry apple, blackberry, elderberry and rhubarb.  Tour our wine production area, walk among the fruit patches, gaze out at the grand view, enjoy a picnic lunch, taste our wines, enjoy the gallery of local artists, and stock up on Vermont country wines, wine accessories and a special piece of Vermont art.  Open last week of May through late October.  Telephone 802-456-7012

Cabot Creamery is on Route 215 in Cabot Village.  You can get there from here by continuing straight on the Max Gray Road.  Seven miles (and three road name changes) later, you will leave the Ducharme Road and turn left on Route 215.  One mile up the road you will see Cabot Creamery.  Be sure to tour the facility and see cheesemaking at its finest, view a video about the creamery, taste a variety of cheeses, and leave with your favorite cheese to pair with your Grand View Winery wine.  Telephone 800-837-4261

If you time this venture right, you will be ready for lunch or a mid afternoon treat at Rainbow Sweets located on Route 2 in Marshfield Village, near the juncture of Route 215 and Route 2.

If you prefer, this trip can be easily reversed and you can continue on to other local attractions like Rock of Ages Granite Quarry in Barre or the Statehouse and Vermont Historical Museum in Montpelier. Some even enjoy continuing the tasting tour and traveling to Ben & Jerry's in Waterbury.
